WHO Catat Ebola Menyebar di Kongo Barat Hampir 50 Kasus

MONITORDAY.COM - Organisasi Kesehatan Dunia (WHO) mencatat Ebola menyebar di wilayah barat Republik Demokratik Kongo, dengan hampir 50 kasus yang diketahui di wilayah luas yang berbatasan dengan Republik Kongo dan Republik Afrika Tengah.
Menurut pakar kedaruratan utama WHO, Mike Ryan, sejak otoritas mengumumkan wabah tersebut pada 1 Juni, sebanyak 48 kasus dikonfirmasi di Provinsi Equateur Kongo, dengan tiga dugaan kasus lainnya serta 20 kematian.
"Wabah ini masih sangat aktif, dan saya akan mengatakan ini masih menjadi kekhawatiran yang besar," kata Ryan saat konferensi pers, Senin (13/07/2020).

Lebih lanjut, Ryan mengatakan provinsi itu mencakup wilayah Sungai Kongo, provinsi tersebut merupakan wilayah geografis yang luas, tempat masyarakat saling terhubung dan orang-orang menempuh jarak jauh dalam bepergian.
"Saya akan mengingatkan semua orang bahwa meski jumlah (kasus) saat ini rendah, sekali lagi pada era COVID-19 sangat penting bahwa kita tidak mengalihkan perhatian kita dari penyakit-penyakit lain yang muncul dan kami melihat di North Kivu dan wabah Ebola sebelumnya bahwa keadaan seperti ini dapat hilang kendali dengan mudah," ujarnya.
Ryan merujuk pada wabah Ebola terpisah di Provinsi Ituri dan North Kivu di Kongo timur, yang dinyatakan bulan lalu. Epidemi itu, terbesar kedua dalam sejarah, menunjukkan 3.463 kasus dugaan dan terkonfirmasi serta 2.277 kematian selama dua tahun.
