Lakeybanget.com - Produsen mobil Jerman Mercedes-Benz mengumumkan keputusan mereka untuk menutup pabrik mobil mewah di Brasil karena pasar otomotif di segmen premium sangat lesu sebagai dampak pandemi COVID-19.
Pabrik Mercedes Benz yang dibuka pada Maret 2016 di Iracemapolis, Sao Paulo sebelah tenggara, akan ditutup bulan ini, kata pabrikan itu namun tidak menjelaskan apakah pabrik itu ditutup sementara atau permanen.

"Situasi ekonomi di Brasil menjadi sulit dalam beberapa tahun belakangan, dan semakin buruk karena pandemi COVID-19, menyebabkan penurunan yang signifikan dalam penjualan mobil premium," kata Jorg Burzer, anggota dewan direksi perusahaan dilansir Kantor Berita Xinhua pada Sabtu.
Terdapat 370 pegawai pada pabrik itu, dan Mercedes-Benz menyatakan siap mencari solusi untuk tenaga kerja yang terdampak penutupan pabrik. Mereka juga dikabarkan akan menawarkan pensiun dini kepada pegawai.
Kendati demikian, Mercedes-Benz menyatakan bahwa pabrik truk dan bus mereka di Sao Bernardo do Campo akan tetap beroperasi.
