.Mantan diktator Mesir itu akhirnya dibebaskan pada 24 Maret 2017 setelah dinyatakan bersalah atas kasus kecil dan hukuman yang dinilai cukup ringan. Rezim Mubarak berkuasa di Mesir selama 30 tahun. Selama masa kepemimpinannya, Mubarak dituduh telah melakukan korupsi dan gagal mengentaskan kemiskinan di Mesir selama berpuluh-puluh tahun.
Ia sempat selamat dari pelbagai percobaan pembunuhan dan memegang kekuasaan terpanjang setelah Muhammad Ali Pasha, pendiri negara Mesir modern dan menentang fundamentalisme Islam pada waktu itu. Mubarak akhirnya terpaksa lengser dari tampuk kekuasaan pada 11 Februari 2011 setelah terjadi demo besar-besaran di negeri itu selama 18 hari.
